9th July 2002 - Small Change to the League Table

A small change has been made to the league table. Your score will not appear on the league table until you have played 5 games. The league is designed to show who is consistently the best players over a number of games. It works most of the time but is there is one case where it doesn't work.

If a player scores 8 or more points every time in there first 2 or 3 games through having lucky guesses they will jump straight to the top of the league. Some of these lucky players then stop playing under that player name (probably starting again as a new player) so there score stays at the top. This isn't really fair on those who play regularly and still achive very good scores through skill and not luck.

18th June 2001 - Important Information for Mac Users

It was recently pointed out that Mac users may have trouble using some of the features of Masterword. This is because some internet browsers don't support all of the Javascript features that are required to play the game. For the best results on a Mac I suggest you use Netscape.

26th May 2001 - New MasterWord Mini Leagues

A Mini League allows you to play MasterWord against your family and friends. Whenever you play MasterWord you score will be recorded in your very own league table along with the scores of other players who you have joined your League. Click here for more details.

26th March 2001 - MasterWord 5 Now Available

A new version of MasterWord has now been added to the site. After many requests, there is now a version of MasterWord where you have to guess a 5 letter word. There are currently over 600 words in this new version, and be warned it is much harder the normal 4 letter version. New players may want to get used to the standard version of MasterWord before trying this one.

At the moment this version does not have a league table, so it won't remember your scores, but if it proves popular a 5 Letter League could be added.

26th January 2001 - Important news for league players

Another new feature has now been added. If you do not play MasterWord for more than 90 days your score will be reset to zero. However, your player name is NOT deleted, so you can still play. The idea is to encourage players at the top of the league to keep playing and give others a chance to reach the top of the league.

23rd January 2001 - Quick login feature

Among a number of small changes added to the site recently is the ability to login from the home page. This along with the other changes, you may notice, should make navigating the site much easier and quicker.

7th January 2001 - Reset Score Button & Message Boards

The reset score button has been taken off the league table screens and moved to the screen that displays you score after each game. The button only appears if you haver played more than 15 games.

I have also removed the Message Board option as nobody ever uses it. Let me know if you want if back

31st October 2000 - New Message Board Feature is Now Available

We now have a MasterWord Message Board, where players can ask other players for advice on playing the game, leave hints and tips or messages for others players, or tell us about yourself. It is failry simple at the moment but if it proves popular it be be expanded further.

31st October 2000 - Reset Game Bug Fixed

Some of you may have noticed a problem in the reset scores button - it didn't work!! The problem has now been fixed and the reset option should be working again now. My apologies to any player who has had problems with this feature.

3rd October 2000 - Change to the League Table

The league table system has been updated and improved so there are now 2 league tables. The main league table now only lists players who have played a game of MasterWord in the last 3 months. After this time you name will not appear in the league. However your scores are NOT deleted so, all you need to do to get back on the league table is play another game. The old version of the league table (showing all players scores no matter when they last played) is still available and can be viewed by clicking the View Full League button on the league table screen.

25th September 2000 - New Feature (The Letter Pad)

A new feature has been added to MasterWord - the Letter Pad. This is an extra window that you can use to help keep track of which letters you have been eliminated when trying to guess a MasterWord.

20th September 2000 - Help for new players.

Some players may have had a few bad games when they first started playing MasterWord, and when this happens it can be very hard to get your average score as high as some of the more experienced players. There is an option to reset your score and start again, but until now this didn't become available until you have played 30 games.

I have now reduced the number of games you need to play before being able to reset you score to 15, to encourage new players. This means you can have a few practice goes to get used to the game, then reset your score and start playing for a top spot on the league table.

9th July 2000 - Word List Updated.

The list of words for MasterWord has now been expanded to include 350 new words. This means that the game now has over 1300 word to choose from.
